Pinot Noir is the most widely planted grape variety at Barbaterre.

It was therefore only natural to develop the idea of creating a sparkling wine using the traditional method, made exclusively from this noble grape variety.

The result is a Blanc de Noirs that spends at least 36 months ageing on its lees, bringing together finesse and versatility at the table.

This vintage sparkling wine is lively, with a fine, intense effervescence that gives it a particularly appealing character. The unique composition of the soils across these hills in the Matilde region further enhances its expressive personality.

Tasting Notes

The wine displays a brilliant golden-yellow colour, revealing floral aromas alongside notes of yellow fruit and citrus. On the palate, it is elegant and structured, with a mineral touch leading into an intense finish.

The vineyards are planted on clay- and limestone-rich soils, with veins of chalk. Several plots face south-west and are situated at an altitude of approximately 300 to 400 metres.

Barbaterre lies in the heart of the enchanting landscapes of the Terre di Matilde, a hilly region between Parma and Reggio Emilia, where a rich historical heritage blends with exceptionally lush natural surroundings. Over the centuries, this region has maintained a strong and enduring connection with Countess Matilda of Canossa. Her legacy lives on in the many castles and country estates that still stand today, bearing witness to the political and religious importance of this area during the Middle Ages.

The numerous castles, some now reduced to ruins while others remain remarkably well preserved, testify to the influence of Matilda of Canossa and the power she wielded over this territory for many years. The castles of Canossa, Rossena and Bianello, located close to Barbaterre, are tangible remnants of a small kingdom that experienced an extraordinary period of power and influence around the year 1000.
