Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – Échézeaux Grand Cru 2019
The Échézeaux Grand Cru 2019 from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is a wine of remarkable depth, elegantly expressing all the richness and finesse of the great terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. The 2019 vintage, marked by a warm and dry summer that was handled exceptionally well by the vines, has produced a Pinot Noir that is both powerful and concentrated, yet remarkably precise.
The nose reveals beautiful intensity, with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, notably raspberry, cherry and blackberry, complemented by delicate floral notes, spices, liquorice and fresher, subtly vegetal nuances. With aeration, the bouquet gradually gains in depth and complexity.
On the palate, the wine is full, dense and velvety, with generous texture supported by remarkable freshness. The tannins are fine, firm and perfectly integrated, providing an elegant structure without weighing down the wine. The precise and deep fruit carries through to a long, fresh, spicy and slightly saline finish.
A truly distinguished Échézeaux Grand Cru, combining power, finesse and precision with remarkable harmony. Still young, it has excellent ageing potential and will gradually gain in complexity and depth over the years.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, often referred to as DRC, is one of the most prestigious and sought-after wine estates in Burgundy. Based in Vosne-Romanée, the estate boasts an exceptional wine heritage made up exclusively of Grands Crus, including the legendary Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Grands-Échezeaux, Échezeaux and Montrachet.
Échézeaux is one of the great terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. The estate owns approximately 4.67 hectares there, spread across several plots within the Grand Cru appellation. The vineyards benefit from soils particularly well suited to expressing Pinot Noir and are cultivated with a constant focus on precision and respect for the terroir.
The 2019 vintage benefited from a warm, dry and exceptionally sunny growing season. Despite these conditions, the vines retained beautiful freshness and produced perfectly ripe grapes, resulting in wines that are refined, concentrated and remarkably well balanced. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti also highlights the remarkable freshness of the wines from this vintage.
The estate’s philosophy is based on a constant pursuit of purity, precision and terroir expression. The wines are vinified with the utmost care and aged in new oak barrels, with the aim of ensuring that the oak remains perfectly integrated and never masks the wine’s identity.
