In 1967, Paul Filliatreau took over the family estate in Saumur Champigny from his father Maurice. He enlarged the estate and turned it towards the production of red wines. Today, joined by his son Frederik, he manages a 45-hectare vineyard that has become a benchmark in Saumur-Champigny.
Domaine Filliatreau’s top-of-the-range cuvées. The first cuvée Vieilles Vignes was created in 1978. The vines are an average of 20 years old, planted at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare, with highly variable exposure due to the parcels’ fragmentation.
The Domaine’s oldest vines are located around the small village of Chaintres and in the communes of Dampierre sur Loire, Varrains and Chacé, south-east of Saumur, all on clay-limestone soil. Between 50 and 100 years old. Grape variety Cabernet franc – Guyot pruning Val de Loire
