Château de Set, Grand Cru Saint Emilion, 2018

The size of a vineyard doesn’t always tell the whole story about the quality of its wines. And the proof that in the Bordeaux region, and more particularly in Saint-Emilion, a tiny vineyard can also produce great wines is provided by Château de Set. Since 2008, this estate of barely one and a half hectares has belonged to Thomas Pêtre, who also runs a wine merchant business in Lendelede, West Flanders. Thomas works with the region’s classic terroir and characteristic grape varieties. But his unconventional approach and youthful, sometimes daring style are a breath of fresh air and an enrichment for one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious appellations.
