1er Cru classé en 1855 in the Margaux appellation, Château Margaux benefits from vines planted on a gravelly hilltop, the soil that characterizes the appellation. The 2008 vintage is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 1.5% Cabernet Franc and 1.5% Petit Verdot. The dryness of July allowed the soils to absorb the light rains of August. The fine weather that followed in mid-September limited the influence of too much water. While 36% of the harvest was devoted to the grand vin, only 31% remained at bottling after losses due to racking.
