Badia a Passignano Abbey, founded in 881, is one of the 6 properties owned by the Antinori family. The estate is located in Sambuca Val di Pesa, 3km south of the Tenuta Tignanello property, in Italy’s Tuscany region.
The Antinori Badia a Passignano estate covers 223 hectares, including 56 hectares of vines planted on limestone soils, mainly Sangiovese with a density of 5,000 to 7,000 vines per hectare, to which Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are added.
The estate bears witness to a prestigious heritage, attested to in the archives of Florence. In 1983, a thousand-year-old vitis vinifera vine was found on the estate.
The wines of the Badia a Passignano estate are renowned for their expressiveness, between power and aromatic purity. The wines are produced with a great sense of respect for balance, and the woody notes are always careful not to mask the elegance of the fruit. On the palate, the wines are full-bodied and well-structured, but always with fine, silky tannins.
It remains a benchmark for the Chianti Classico appellation, with wines of assertive personality that are representative of their terroir.
