A traditional Barolo, one of Prunotto’s historic labels, the first vintage of which was produced in 1905 from the best grapes grown in the vineyards at the heart of the Barolo appellation. The wine is aged in large oak casks of various sizes, further enhancing the extraordinary typicity of Nebbiolo in this region.
The 2020 season began with a normal winter, mild temperatures and limited rainfall, with no extreme weather events. The first half of spring was relatively dry and sunny, which ensured that the vines grew early and steadily. The months of May and June were marked by generous rainfall, which slowed down the development of the vines and caused them to lose the lead they had built up in early spring. However, the showers provided beneficial underground water reserves which, combined with moderate summer temperatures, prevented water stress in the vineyards. Periodic thinning of the bunches helped to balance the crop load per vine and increase the optimum levels of sugar concentration. The excellent weather conditions in September, with wide variations in temperature between day and night, ensured an ideal ripening phase.
