Masintín is the story of 4 Belgian friends who had the idea of reviving forgotten vineyards in Chile and demonstrating that it is precisely here that the best wines in Chile can be produced.
The Itata and Maule valleys are among the oldest wine regions in Chile. The valleys therefore enjoy a perfect climate, and benefit from the moderating influence of the Pacific Ocean. Small vineyards are scattered across the hilly landscape, interspersed with pine forests and eucalyptus plantations. The vines, often very old, are not irrigated and are deeply rooted in the quartz-rich soil. They are “en gobelet” pruned, with the branches protecting the bunches of grapes from heat and drought like an umbrella.
Masintín wanted to represent the real grape in every drop. They are committed to producing small-scale, honest and elegant wines from iconic but often overlooked sites in Chile.
Cinsault and Carignan grapes are hand-picked and vinified with natural wild yeasts, after which the wines are aged in concrete vats, old French oak barrels and in cocciopesto amphorae. The result is spectacular. Masintín produces powerful, yet elegant wines with lots of red fruit. Wines to never forget!
