The property
Located in the beautiful Colchaga Valley, Clos Apalta Casa Lapostolle has become one of the most famous estates in Chile. On an exceptional terroir, the vineyard extends over 60 hectares of vines, some of which are over 80 years old. The microclimate of Clos Apalta associated with a preserved know-how is thus the keystone of the birth of truly exceptional artisan wines.
Vinification and aging
Clos Apalta 2018 was vinified by plot to best express the personality of each grape variety and each terroir. The gentle extractions with little punching down have preserved the beautiful substance of the fruit without excess. After maceration in vats for 30 to 35 days, 18% of the wines fermented in Bordeaux barrels while the others did so in small wooden vats.
Breeding
27 months in barrels, 85% of which are new oak.
Assembly
Carménère (48%), Cabernet Sauvignon (26%), Merlot (25%), Petit Verdot (1%).
Tasting
Pure expression of the great Chilean terroirs, Clos Apalta 2018 charms the eye with its deep garnet red color. With great aromatic richness, the bouquet opens with notes of small red fruits reminiscent of raspberry, currant or even wild strawberry. The attack on the palate highlights the aromatic notes perceived on the nose before revealing the silky and tender tannic structure of the wine. Notes of black olive, cassis and liquorice line the palate. Endless, the finish stretches for a long time with finesse, tension and elegance.
