With almost 90 different appellations, Joseph Drouhin has a wide variety of terroirs in Burgundy. With a family tradition that has endured for over 130 years, the fourth generation has adopted an organic and biodynamic approach, respecting the vines and the terroir as much as possible. A distinctive style characterised by balanced, harmonious wines.
Located in the extreme south of the Côte de Beaune, the Joseph Drouhin Santenay vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soil. The production of each vine is limited (47 hectolitres per hectare) so that the grapes can show all the nuances of the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand when they have reached optimum ripeness.
In the cellar, the Joseph Drouhin Santenay is macerated and vinified for 3 weeks with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature. Pigeage and remontage (pumping over) are carried out daily until halfway through and at the end of fermentation respectively. The wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels, 10% of which are new.
