Created in 1840, “Liqueur de Santé” was the first liqueur made from the original Grande Chartreuse Plant Elixir recipe. It was so popular that Père Garnier, the public prosecutor in charge of liqueurs at the time, decided to officially name it Chartreuse Verte, and registered the “Chartreuse” trademark in 1852. It is still produced today by the Carthusian Fathers at their Aiguenoire distillery in Entre-Deux-Guiers (Isère – France).
