Les Forts de Latour, second wine of Château Latour, one of the five Premiers Crus in the 1855 classification, is made from grapes with a triple origin. First, there are the young vines of the estate, whether whole plots or planted vines. Then there are the vines located outside the Enclos – the 47 hectares that surround the château – and which are found, among other places, on prestigious terroirs such as Petit Batailley or Comtesse de Lalande. Finally there are the vats from the Enclos and not used for the first wine.
Vinification and aging are the same as for the Grand Vin, with two major differences: here, the barrels are half new and the Merlot is more present, up to 25 to 30% next to the Cabernet Sauvignon.
There is in this wine all the elegance of this legendary estate, with density, depth, breadth, righteousness. A very accessible second wine that gives a glimpse of its elder.
