This 2016 Vintage is a vibrant tribute to the Pinot noir of the Montagne. Since the 2013 vintage, Maison Louis Roederer has sought out this singular expression of Verzy Pinot Noirs, which are made from the first vines purchased in the mid-19th century.
A finely toasted, powdery bouquet combining ripe, sweet, juicy red fruit (cherry jam and redcurrant), candied citrus, roasted and dried fruit (hazelnut) in a delicate roasting. A few moments of aeration reveal more mineral notes of warm, damp chalk and chalky millstone in the sun. Complex, generous and kaleidoscopic on the palate. A juicy, creamy envelope of ripe nectarine fruit. It’s like biting into fruit! The creamy, silky bubbles delicately graze the palate and tongue, stretching and lengthening the creamy substance in a rich, transparent impression. There’s a feeling of completeness associated with mineral, grainy elements, supported by spicy, woody, powdery and almost camphor notes. The finish is long, grainy, saline and sapid.
MILLESIME
The year 2016 was characterized by a particularly pronounced climatic pendulum: after a cool, wet, rather late spring, the summer was dry and hot, marked by a heatwave at the end of August and a dry, sunny harvest period that ensured the grapes ripened beautifully. These dry, bright conditions benefited the canicular Pinots Noirs, whose ripeness revealed an intense fruity character and silky texture. The Chardonnays are not to be outdone, with a more classic, chiselled and saline allure. Harvest from September 15 to October 1, 2016.
