Forged by time and a chalky soil unique in the world, Cristal is the flagship of Maison Louis Roederer. Created in 1876 at the special request of Tsar Alexander II, this exceptional cuvée, made from 45 parcels, mainly Grands Crus, is only produced in years when ripeness reaches perfection. This powdery, chalky, luminous champagne is a slow-build animated by artisanal, haute-couture viticulture. Cristal is the ultimate experience, conceived with the idea of revelation over time, sublimating with the years to gain in depth, delicacy of texture and diversity of aromas.
“Beyond champagne, Cristal is an emotion: it reveals the morning purity of a white soil, under a luminous, eternal sky.” – Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Cellar Master
In 1876, Tsar Alexander II, already a great admirer of Louis Roederer cuvées, asked Louis Roederer to “push the exercise even further” to create, for his personal use, a cuvée unique in bottle and quality. Louis Roederer offered to make an exceptional white crystal bottle in which he would elaborate the best selection of vines from 7 of his estate’s grands crus. This cuvée, only made in the “great” years when the maturity of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes allows a subtle, precise balance to be achieved, is Champagne’s first prestige cuvée. Seductive, precise, gourmand and endowed with a “fuse” freshness.
